Ingredients
Beef – 500 gm cut into small pieces
Raw Banana – 1
Oil – 1 1/2 tbsp
Cloves – 4
Cardamom – 2
Cinnamon – 2″ piece
Ginger – 1 tbsp crushed
Garlic – 1 tbsp crushed
Onion – 1 big sliced
Green chillies – 4 slit
Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
Tomatoes – 2 medium chopped
Coriander powder – 2 tsp
Meat masala – 2 tsp
Chilly powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt – to taste
Water – 2 cups
Pepper powder – 3/4 tsp
Garam masala – 1/2 tsp
Aniseed powder / Perumjeeraka podi – 1/2 tsp
Method
Remove most of the green skin of the banana, wash and cut it lengthwise and slice. Keep them in water. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add the whole spices followed by ginger, garlic, onions, green chillies and curry leaves. Fry till the onions turn light brown. Add the tomatoes and fry for a minute. Now add the spice powders and fry till the aroma comes out. Add the beef, salt and water. Mix well and pressure cook 5 minutes lesser than the usual time for the beef to be cooked. Allow it to cool. Add the banana pieces, pepper powder, garam masala and aniseed powder to the beef curry. Pressure cook for another 5 minutes. Lip-smacking ‘Beef and Kaya (Raw Banana) Curry’ is now ready to be served. Enjoy!
