Ingredients
Boiled potatoes – 2 diced
Beef – 1/2 kg cut into cubes
Onion – 1 sliced
Ginger – 1 tbsp chopped
Garlic – 1 tbsp chopped
Green chillies – 3 slit
Tomatoes – 2 chopped
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Salt – to taste
Water – 1 cup
For Grinding
Coconut oil – 2 tsp
Grated coconut – 3/4 cup
Coriander seeds – 4 tsp
Dry red chillies – 5
Peppercorns – 3/4 tsp
Aniseeds/ Perumjeerakam – 1/2 tsp
Cinnamon – 2″ piece
Cardamom – 2
Cloves – 4
For Frying
Coconut oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
Small onions – 5 sliced
Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
Method
Pressure cook the beef cubes along with all other ingredients, except potatoes for 20 minutes on a low flame, after the first whistle. Roast the ingredients mentioned for grinding till golden brown. Grind it to a fine paste using some water and keep aside. Add the ground paste and boiled potatoes to the cooked beef, mix well and simmer for 5 minutes. Heat oil in a small pan and splutter mustard seeds. Add small onions and curry leaves and fry till golden brown. Pour it over the beef curry. Serve yummy ‘Varutharacha Beef Curry / Beef in Roasted Coconut Gravy’ as a side dish for rice, chapathi, bread, puttu, pidi, pathiri, appam, idiyappam, dosa or idli. Enjoy with your loved ones!
