Ingredients
Sardines – 500 gm
Oil – 1 tbsp
Ginger – 2 tsp crushed
Garlic – 2 tsp crushed
Green chillies – 5 slit
Onion – 1 chopped
Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
Tomatoes – 2 chopped
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Pepper powder – 1 tsp
Fish masala / Curry powder – 1 tsp
Water – 2 1/2 cups
Vinegar – 2 tbsp
Salt – to taste
Method
Heat oil in a ‘manchatti’ or a non-stick pan and add crushed ginger and garlic. Add green chillies, onions and curry leaves. Fry till the onions turn light brown. Add the tomatoes and salt. Fry till the oil separates. Add the spice powders and sprinkle some water. Fry for 2 minutes. Add water and vinegar, cover with a lid and allow it to boil. Add the sardines and cook covered on a low flame for 15 minutes. Yummy ‘Mathi Thilappichathu / Sardine Curry’ is now ready. Serve hot with steamed rice. Cheers!
I love mathis curry but H and S runs a mile from it, so never ever made them, going to sis place next week for a month so i am so looking forward for eating all our traditional food.
