Duck Stew / Tharavu Stew

Country duck – 1 kg cut into pieces

Onions – 2 medium sliced

Ginger – 2 tbsp crushed

Coriander powder – 2 tsp

Pepper powder – 1 tsp

Garam masala – 1/2 tsp

Vinegar – 2 tsp

Water – 2 cups

Salt – to taste

For The Stew

Coconut oil – 2 tbsp

Cloves – 6

Cardamom – 4

Cinnamon – 2″ piece

Garlic – 2 tbsp crushed

Onions – 2 medium sliced

Green chillies – 6 slit

Curry leaves – 4 sprigs

Pepper powder – 1 tsp

Garam masala – 1/2 tsp

Boiled potatoes – 2 big cut into big cubes

Thin coconut milk – 1 cup

Thick coconut milk – 1/2 cup



Pressure cook the duck pieces along with the mentioned ingredients, for 20 to 30 minutes on a low flame, after the first whistle.  Heat oil in a large non-stick pan and add the whole spices followed by garlic, onions, green chillies and curry leaves.  Fry till the onions turn light brown in color.  Add the thin coconut milk, potatoes and the cooked duck pieces along with the gravy.  Adjust the salt and simmer for 5 minutes.  Now add the thick coconut milk and mix well.  Switch off the flame before it starts to boil.  Delicious ‘Duck Stew / Tharavu Stew’ goes well with palappam, kallapam, idiyappam, puttu and bread.  Enjoy with your loved ones!
