Chicken Thoran / Kozhi Thoran



Chicken – 500 gm cut into small pieces

Coriander powder – 2 tsp

Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp

Chilly powder – 1 tsp

Salt – to taste

Water – 1/4 cup

For Frying

Coconut oil – 1 1/2 tbsp

Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp

Cloves – 3

Cardamom – 2

Cinnamon – 2″ piece

Ginger – 1 tbsp crushed

Garlic – 1 tbsp crushed

Dry red chillies – 2 broken

Onion – 1 big chopped

Curry leaves – 2 sprig

For Grinding

Grated coconut – 1 cup

Green chillies – 3

Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp



Cook the chicken along with spice powders, salt and water till done.  Grind the coconut with green chillies and cumin seeds, to a coarse mixture.  Heat oil in a non-stick pan and splutter mustard seeds.  Add whole spices, ginger, garlic and dry chillies.  Add onions and curry leaves, and fry till  the onions turn light brown.  Add the crushed coconut mixture and the cooked chicken, along with the left over gravy.  Fry till it becomes dry and oil sepatares.  Delicious ‘Chicken Thoran / Kozhi Thoran’ is ready.  Serve it with rice, chappathi, puttu, appam, idiyappam, dosa or bread.  Enjoy!
