Bottle Gourd With Channa Dal / Lauki Dal



Channa dal – 1/2 cup

Water – 1 1/2 cups

Bottle gourd – 2 cups diced

Oil – 1 tbsp

Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp

Garlic – 2 tsp crushed

Onion – 1 medium chopped

Green chilly – 1 sliced

Chilly powder – 1 tsp

Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp

Salt  – to taste

Lime juice – 1 tsp

Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp chopped



Pressure cook the dal along with water for 4 minutes, after the first whistle.  Allow it to cool.  Add the lauki and pressure cook for another 4 minutes more.  Heat oil in a non-stick pan and splutter cumin seeds.   Add garlic and fry for a few minutes.  Add onions and green chilly.  Fry till the onions turn light brown in color.  Add the spice powders, stir and add  the cooked lauki and dal.  Add salt and mix well.   Simmer for 2 minutes and add the lime juice and coriander leaves.  Tasty ‘Bottle Gourd With Channa Dal / Lauki Dal’ can be served with chapathi, pori or rice.  Cheers!
