Bread Upma

Ingredients

Bread slices – 3 cups cut into cubes

Ghee – 1 tsp

Oil – 1 tbsp

Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp

Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp

Channa dal – 1 tbsp

Urad dal – 1 tbsp

Onion – 1 medium chopped

Ginger – 1/2″ piece chopped

Green chillies – 2 sliced

Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Tomato – 1 diced

Chilly powder – 1/4 tsp

Turmeric powder – 1/8 tsp

Tomato sauce – 1 tsp

Water – 1/2 cup

Salt – to taste

Lime juice – 1 tsp

Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp chopped

 

Method

Heat ghee and oil in a pan, and splutter mustard and cumin seeds.  Add the dals followed by onions, ginger, green chillies and curry leaves.  Fry till the onions turn light brown and add tomatoes.  Fry for a minute and add the spice powders.  Add tomato sauce, water and salt to taste.  When it boils, add the bread cubes and mix well.  Finally add the lime juice and coriander leaves.  Mix well and serve hot.  Yummy ‘Bread Upma’ can be served for breakfast or as a snack.  Enjoy!
